Today, ESB ecars announced a planned price reduction across its public EV charging network in the Republic of Ireland, effective from Friday, June 21st. Unit rates will decrease by 13% for High-Power (200kW) chargers, 12% for Fast chargers, and 8% for Standard chargers. As well as that, contactless payments will also be available on High-Power Chargers from the end of this week, making EV ownership more affordable and accessible for everyone.

The previous one-off overstay fee of €8 has been replaced with a more progressive, incremental fee to better encourage drivers to free up charge points once they’re done charging. ESB’s latest customer survey revealed that 76% of respondents support this change. The new overstay fee structure is 50c per minute, starting after 45 minutes on High-Power and Fast chargers, and after 10 hours on Standard chargers.

To ensure customers are aware of when overstay fees apply, ESB encourages all drivers to enable notifications on the ESB ecar connect app. Customers will receive push notifications as a reminder about the overstay fee when they start their charge.

Over the past two years, ESB has installed 42 multi-vehicle, high-power charging hubs nationwide and replaced over 300 chargers to enhance the speed and capacity of the charging network. Now, ESB boasts over 1,600 public charge points across the country, maintaining an impressive average reliability rate of 98%.

The advancements by ESB ecars mark a significant milestone in Ireland’s EV mobility rollout, making electric vehicle adoption more accessible for everyone and supporting the widespread transition to electric.
