The Hyundai IONIQ 6 clinched the prestigious top prize at the awards ceremony organised by the Motoring Media Association of Ireland (MMAI) in collaboration with sponsors Continental Tyres. This marks the fourth consecutive year that an electric vehicle has been named the Irish Car of the Year, the oldest and most respected automotive accolade in Ireland. The event, which took place at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin, united respected car manufacturers, importers, and distributors to honour the finest new car models introduced over the past year. Annually, MMAI members evaluate all newly released cars in Ireland and cast their votes to determine the award recipients.

Tom Dennigan representing the awards sponsor Continental Tyres, expressed his enthusiasm about the victory: “The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is a really stylish car at the forefront of automotive design. I am sure that our Irish Car of the Year title will be a huge boost to the nameplate’s profile with Irish motorists who are considering making the move to electric.”

The impressive success of electric vehicles extended beyond securing the top spot. EV's demonstrated an outstanding performance across various segments, claiming a remarkable five out of the total nine awards available. Among the winning electric vehicles were the MG4 named as the Small/Compact Car of the Year, the BYD Atto 3 winning in the Small/Compact SUV of the Year, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 awarded the title for Medium/Large Car of the Year, and the BMW i7 earning the Luxury Car of the Year accolade. Moreover, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 was recognised as the overall Car of the Year, adding to its exceptional achievements at the ceremony.
