BMW Unveils All-New AI Voice Assistant at CES 2026

 

BMW is preparing a major leap forward in how drivers interact with their cars. From 2026, the brand will roll out a new generation of its BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, powered by Amazon’s next-generation Alexa+ AI architecture. The result? The technology will make its debut in the all-new BMW iX3, before gradually rolling out across the wider BMW range.

You’ll be able to ask multiple questions in one sentence, follow up with additional requests, and expect the car to understand what you mean without having to repeat yourself.

For example, you could ask about a famous landmark, learn where it’s located, and then simply say “take me there”, with navigation automatically picking up the context and guiding you to your destination.

Smarter Answers, Better Understanding

At the heart of this upgrade is a large language model (LLM) a form of generative AI designed to understand natural language and respond intelligently. Over time, the assistant learns from interactions, allowing it to anticipate intent and deliver more accurate responses as you continue to use it. This context-aware approach means the system isn’t just reacting to commands, it’s actively understanding what you’re trying to achieve.

Seamless Integration With Your Digital Life

By linking the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with an Amazon account, drivers will gain easier access to music streaming, news updates, general knowledge queries and more, all through voice control. It’s designed to blur the line between your car and your wider digital ecosystem, keeping things familiar whether you’re at home or on the road.

First Launch at CES, Then on the Road

Customer rollout begins in the second half of 2026, with BMW iX3 drivers in Germany and the United States first in line to experience it. Additional markets and models will follow in phases. The new voice assistant will sit within BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive system, running on BMW Operating System X, reinforcing the brand’s move toward a fully software-defined vehicle approach.

The Intelligent Personal Assistant has been a core part of BMW’s infotainment experience since 2018, with Amazon integration arriving in 2022 and further expansions in 2025 that brought improved music search, news, sports and general knowledge features.
