CUPRA is bringing its performance-focused DNA into the compact EV segment with the new Raval VZ, an electric hatchback designed to combine sharp styling, sporty handling and everyday usability in a much smaller package. Revealed during an exclusive first drive in Barcelona, the Raval VZ sits on Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform and measures just over four metres long, while still offering a surprisingly spacious cabin and a 441-litre boot.
Small dimensions, big performance focus
The range-topping VZ model sends 226hp to the front wheels and features a lower sports chassis, wider track and an electronic front slip differential designed to sharpen handling. CUPRA has also fitted a dedicated one-box braking system with full one-pedal driving functionality, helping make the Raval feel noticeably more responsive both in urban driving and on twistier roads. DC fast charging capability is also included, while the compact dimensions and 2.6-metre wheelbase help maximise agility in tighter city environments, with a top range of up to 446km.
A much more premium cabin than expected
Inside, the Raval VZ feels heavily focused on technology and driver engagement. A 12.9-inch infotainment display sits at the centre of the dashboard, alongside sport bucket seats, anodised detailing and a premium Sennheiser sound system. One of the more unusual features is CUPRA’s blind-spot warning integration, which places the alert lighting directly into the ambient light strip running across the doors rather than using traditional mirror indicators.
Worth watching?
The Raval VZ feels like CUPRA is targeting younger EV buyers who still want personality and driving involvement from a compact hatchback. With aggressive styling, strong practicality figures and performance-focused engineering, it brings a noticeably different feel to the smaller EV segment. With pricing expected to start below €25,000, the Raval could become one of the most talked-about compact EVs arriving into Ireland over the next few years.
