Leapmotor B05 - Review

Leapmotor is preparing to enter the Irish market with the all-new B05, a C-segment electric hatchback designed to compete with established rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3. Backed by Stellantis and built on the company's latest LEAP 3.5 architecture, the B05 combines rear-wheel-drive performance, modern technology and a practical hatchback layout, with Irish pricing expected to start below €30,000.

Rear-wheel drive and fast charging capability

The B05 is powered by a rear-mounted with up to 160kW electric motor producing 218hp, delivering power exclusively to the rear wheels. Built around two battery packs at 56.2kWh and 67.1kWh, the B05 supports DC charging speeds of up to 175kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in approximately 24 minutes. The platform also features a near 50:50 weight distribution, helping balance everyday comfort with predictable handling characteristics.

A more premium feel than expected

One of the standout features is the use of frameless doors, a design element more commonly associated with premium vehicles. Inside, the B05 centres around a 14-inch infotainment display powered by Qualcomm hardware, with wireless smartphone connectivity and a high-definition 3D surround camera system. A 2.73-metre wheelbase helps maximise interior space, while the flat rear floor contributes to a more spacious cabin for passengers. Boot capacity stands at 345 litres, with additional storage available beneath the floor.

Worth considering?

The B05 represents an important step for Leapmotor as it expands into European markets. With rear-wheel-drive performance, rapid charging capability and a technology-focused interior, it brings a different proposition to the growing electric hatchback segment. If the projected sub-€30,000 Irish pricing is achieved, the B05 could become an interesting new option for buyers considering a compact electric hatchback.
