Video Review
We recently stopped off in Enniscorthy to visit the J Donohoe BMW franchise at its state-of-the-art premises in Quarrypark, County Wexford. Established in 1995 at its original location in Templeshannon, J Donohoe has enjoyed long-standing success with the BMW brand. By offering customers a premium level of service across both its sales and workshop facilities, the business prides itself on staff expertise, friendly service, and a deep-rooted dedication to the brand
Now, with the shift away from combustion engines and towards electric power, we wanted to understand how J Donohoe is helping customers make the transition. In this Q&A, we sit down with Sales Manager Tommy Davitt to learn more.
In your opinion what is the feeling or perception towards electric cars in the Wexford area?
In the Wexford area, perceptions of electric cars are steadily shifting. While some residents remain cautious due to charging infrastructure and rural range concerns, growing environmental awareness and rising fuel costs are encouraging interest. More locals are noticing the benefits of EVs, especially for town driving. Supportive government incentives and an increasing number of visible EVs on roads locally are gradually improving acceptance. Here in J Donohoe, we still believe in qualifying the potential customer to make sure they are suitable for an EV. By offering extended test drive opportunities and understanding our customers needs we are poised to give customers in the Wexford area the knowledge they need.
Can you tell us a little bit about the current BMW electric car range?
No problem, BMW have shifted the electric model range around a bit so now it starts with the BMW i4. This stylish five‑door Gran Coupé with up to 590 km WLTP range (eDrive40). A high‑performance M50 (544 hp, 0‑100 km/h in 3.9 s) is also available. Then we step up to the BMW i5, which comes as a saloon and Touring in eDrive40, xDrive40, and sporty M60 trims with a range of 580km. In terms of our SUV’s the BMW iX was updated this year and comes in xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70, offering 600–685 km WLTP range. Finally, we have the compact iX1 (eDrive20, xDrive30) which are proving very popular.
Are we to anticipate any further new models coming in 2025?
We have been told the next‑gen iX3 is due in the next few months. Built on the Neue Klasse platform it will have dramatic improvements over the outgoing model with up to +30 % range and +30 % faster charging and available in 40, 40 xDrive, 50 xDrive, and even an M60 variant.
What is your view on the used EV market and do you have much stock?
We have whats known as ‘Approved Used’ BMW electric vehicles for sale at our dealership and this sector is growing steadily for us. Models like the i3, i4, and iX3 have went through our 120 point used check test which, has been designed to reassure potential buyers they are getting a quality vehicle. Many come with low mileage, full service history, 24 months warranty along with the remaining battery warranties. For us, used BMW EVs present a smart, affordable entry into premium electric motoring.
Are there any 252 deals you are keen to highlight at present?
At J Donohue we are always seeking competitive pricing for our customers. For our 252 offers customers can avail of various finance and PCP options. For example a new iX1 costs €52,275 but with €15,683 deposit, you could be enjoying motoring in a brand new electric BMW from €374 a month.
