Video Review
When Peugeot rolled out the 408 back in 2022, the brief was clear: slot something in between the 508 saloon and the brand's growing herd of SUVs. What landed was a bit of an oddball, in the best possible way. Low to the ground like a proper hatch, but with the cladding and stance of something more rugged.
A face that turns heads
Let's just say it: the E-408 looks fantastic. Up front, those three-claw headlights are joined by an angular LED strip running into the nose, where the Peugeot crest lights up, though that party trick is reserved for the GT and GT Exclusive trims. The base Allure misses out. Round the back, more triple-claw lighting frames an illuminated "Peugeot" badge. It's a first for the brand, and it's a nice touch.
How it drives
The E-408 packs a 213hp motor up front, fed by a 58.2kWh battery. The PHEV pairs a 1.6 turbo petrol with a 93kW motor for a combined 240hp and 360Nm, sending it all through a seven-speed dual-clutch box.
The electric version is the more satisfying drive, not because it's quick in a hot-hatch sense, but because the power arrives smoothly and instantly. And because the battery is relatively modest, the E-408 weighs around 1,800kg, helping achieve a range of up to 453km.
Worth buying?
Honestly, yes. There's something refreshing about the 408 - distinctive, well-judged, and full of personality. We've got test drives in the updated 408 heading to Nevo soon, so if this one's caught your eye, keep an eye out. You won't want to miss it.
