Renault 4 Plein Sud - Review

Renault has given its new Renault 4 E-Tech a distinctive twist with the Plein Sud edition, a version that replaces the traditional roof with a large retractable canvas top inspired by the open-air Renault 4 Plein Air of the 1960s. Designed to bring a more relaxed driving experience to the compact EV segment, the Plein Sud combines the practicality of a crossover with the feel of a near-convertible.

A canvas roof takes centre stage

The standout feature is Renault's electrically operated Plein Sud canvas roof. Measuring approximately 80cm wide and 92cm long, the roof can open or close in around 11 seconds using a switch inside the cabin or remotely via a smartphone app. Unlike a traditional panoramic roof, the opening creates a much more open-air feel for both front and rear passengers. The system can only be operated below 90km/h, helping ensure the mechanism functions safely while driving.

More than just an open roof

The Plein Sud retains the practicality of the standard Renault 4 E-Tech, including a generous 440-litre boot and a low loading lip designed to make everyday loading easier. Inside, dual 10-inch displays and Google built-in infotainment provide access to navigation, voice controls and connected apps, while the long-range powertrain offers up to 392km of range. DC charging of up to 130kW is also supported, helping reduce charging times on longer journeys.

Worth considering?

Expected to arrive in Ireland with pricing targeted between €34,000 and €36,500 depending on specification, the Renault 4 Plein Sud offers something rarely seen in the EV market, Renault has created a distinctive alternative for buyers looking for something a little different.
