Video Review
Volkswagen has revived one of its most recognisable special editions with the new ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice. Created in collaboration with sportswear brand Bogner, the model pays tribute to the original Golf Fire and Ice from 1990 while combining retro-inspired design details with the performance and technology of Volkswagen’s most powerful ID.3 to date. Production is limited to just 1,990 units worldwide, matching the launch year of the original model.
Performance to match the looks
The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 326hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds. Energy comes from a 79kWh battery, while DC charging speeds of up to 185kW help reduce charging times on longer journeys. Volkswagen has also equipped the car with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), allowing the suspension to adapt to different driving conditions while balancing comfort and handling.
A cabin unlike any other ID.3
Inside, the Fire+Ice edition stands apart from the standard ID.3 range. The cabin features bespoke red and blue design themes inspired by the original Fire and Ice concept, alongside electrically adjustable ErgoActive sports seats with massage functionality. A 12.9-inch infotainment display comes as standard, while unique Fire+Ice badging and Bogner-inspired detailing reinforce the model’s limited-edition character.
Worth considering?
The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice combines modern EV performance with a strong connection to Volkswagen’s heritage. With exclusive styling, limited production numbers and a starting price of €39,340 in Ireland, it offers something a little different from the growing number of performance-focused electric hatchbacks now arriving on the market.
