Volkswagen ID.Polo GTI - First-Look

The GTI has gone electric, and Nevo was there to see it happen. We travelled to Volkswagen's exclusive True event in Hamburg for the world debut of the all-new ID. Polo GTI, the first fully electric model in the badge's 50-year history. The result is the most powerful Polo Volkswagen has ever built, and a clear signal of where the iconic hot hatch is heading next.

226 PS, 424 km range and a transformable GTI cockpit

Driving the front wheels is a 226 PS (166 kW) electric motor, taking the ID. Polo GTI from 0–100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, with a WLTP range of up to 424 km from a 52.2 kWh NMC battery. Step inside and the cabin transforms at the press of a button thanks to a dedicated GTI driving mode, while Volkswagen's dynamics team is reportedly developing a paddleshift-style power delivery, in the vein of Hyundai's N performance models, to give the car a more engaging feel from behind the wheel.

The future of the hot hatch, and what it means for Ireland

This is the future of the GTI, and on first impression it is seriously impressive. As Ireland's EV market continues to grow, the all-electric ID. Polo GTI is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about new arrivals of the year. Follow @nevoireland on Instagram and sign up at Nevo.ie for the latest news on Volkswagen, the ID.
