Volvo ES90 - Review

Volvo is entering the premium electric saloon market with the new ES90, a luxury EV designed to combine long-distance comfort, high-performance technology and minimalist Scandinavian design in one refined package. Returning to Irish roads following its international debut in Sweden, the ES90 sits at the top of Volvo’s electric lineup and introduces the brand’s latest software, charging and safety technology.

Big power, fast charging and serious range

The ES90 will be available with multiple powertrain options, with the flagship Performance AWD version producing up to 680hp. Built on an 800V architecture, Volvo says the ES90 can charge from 10–80% in as little as 22 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger. Depending on specification, the ES90 delivers a claimed range of over 600km, helping position it as a genuine long-distance electric cruiser.

A calmer approach to luxury

Inside, the ES90 focuses heavily on refinement, comfort and technology rather than excessive complexity. Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED lighting, a panoramic roof and a minimalist cabin design give the car a much more understated feel than many rivals in the luxury EV segment. Features including Bowers & Wilkins surround sound, air suspension and Volvo’s latest Google-based infotainment system also help reinforce the premium experience.

Worth watching?

The ES90 feels like Volvo is taking a different approach to luxury EVs. Rather than chasing aggressive styling or overly complicated interiors, the focus here is clearly comfort, quietness and effortless long-distance driving. With strong range figures, ultra-fast charging capability and a more relaxed Scandinavian design philosophy, the ES90 could become one of the standout premium EV saloons arriving into Ireland.
