XPENG G6 Long Range - Review

The Xpeng G6 arrives in Ireland at a time when the electric SUV market is more competitive than ever. Positioned as a sleek, tech-focused alternative to familiar names like the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4 and Hyundai IONIQ 5, the G6 aims to combine long-range capability with premium comfort and cutting-edge features, without pushing into luxury-car pricing.

While Xpeng may still be a relatively new name on Irish roads, the G6 makes a strong first impression. On paper, it offers impressive range, ultra-fast charging and a cabin packed with technology. The big question is whether it delivers a convincing real-world experience to match.

Performance

In Ireland, the Xpeng G6 is offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive, which suits the needs of most drivers here. The Long Range version we got to review uses a single electric motor producing 286hp and 440Nm of torque, delivering brisk performance without feeling overly aggressive.

From behind the wheel, the G6 feels smooth, refined and easy to drive. Acceleration is confident rather than dramatic, with a 0–100km/h time of around 6.7 seconds, quick enough for motorway joins and overtakes, but clearly tuned more for comfort than outright sportiness.

The steering and suspension setup reflect that same philosophy. The ride is composed and relaxed, soaking up bumps well, while the controls feel light and intuitive. It’s not trying to be a performance SUV, but as an everyday electric family car, it feels well judged and easy to live with.

Range and Charging

Range is one of the G6’s strongest selling points. The Long Range model uses an 87.5kWh battery and delivers an official WLTP range of up to 570km, placing it among the more capable electric SUVs in its class.

For Irish drivers, that translates into genuine long-distance usability, whether it’s commuting, weekend trips or motorway driving. It also gives buyers the reassurance that range anxiety is unlikely to be a regular concern.

Charging performance is equally impressive. Thanks to its high-performance architecture, the G6 Long Range supports DC charging speeds of up to 280kW. In ideal conditions, this allows a 10–80% charge in roughly 20 minutes, putting it firmly in the ultra-rapid category.

At home, charging on a typical 7.4kW wallbox takes around 14 hours for a full charge, which is in line with most large-battery EVs. Like all versions of the G6, the Long Range model also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), meaning the car can power external devices such as laptops, tools or camping equipment.

Design and Interior

Visually, the XPENG G6 adopts a clean, aerodynamic shape that feels modern without being overly futuristic. The smooth front end, slim lighting signature and coupe-style roofline give it a sleek profile, while the panoramic glass roof adds to its premium presence.

Step inside and the cabin feels minimalistic but well finished. Buyers can choose between light and dark interior themes, both trimmed in soft synthetic leather with a pleasing mix of textures and materials. The overall impression is contemporary and surprisingly upmarket.

The dashboard is dominated by a large central touchscreen, which controls most vehicle functions. While the lack of physical buttons may divide opinion, the system is responsive, logically laid out and easy to use once familiar. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, along with over-the-air software updates.

Tech highlights include dual wireless phone chargers, an advanced driver assistance suite and an 18-speaker premium sound system that also contributes to cabin noise reduction at speed.

Comfort is another strong point. The front seats are electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated, and can recline almost fully, ideal for longer journeys or charging stops. Rear passengers benefit from generous space, and the boot offers up to 571 litres of capacity, making the G6 a practical option for families.

Cost Considerations

In Ireland, the XPENG G6 Standard Range starts from around €42,000 after incentives, while the Long Range version comes in at approximately €49,440. That places it competitively within the electric SUV segment, especially given the level of equipment included as standard.

Even without optional extras, the G6 offers features that often cost extra elsewhere, including advanced driver assistance systems, premium audio, heated and ventilated seats, dual wireless charging and an electric tailgate.

XPENG also backs the G6 with a strong warranty package, covering the vehicle for five years or 160,000km, with extended coverage for the battery and electric drivetrain. Servicing intervals are set at once per year or every 20,000km, which is typical for modern EVs.

Verdict

The XPENG G6 Long Range is a convincing new contender in Ireland’s electric SUV market. It blends strong real-world range, ultra-fast charging and high-end technology with a comfortable driving experience and competitive pricing.

It may not have the brand recognition of some established rivals, and its minimalist interior layout won’t appeal to everyone, but in terms of value, performance and everyday usability, the G6 makes a compelling case.

For Irish drivers looking beyond the usual EV choices, and willing to try something a little different, the XPENG G6 Long Range feels like one of the most interesting electric SUVs to arrive in recent years. It’s not just competitive on paper; it genuinely feels ready to challenge the segment’s biggest names.
